The year was also memorable in terms of participation.  Aldo Mallet was our Volunteer of the Year.  We all appreciate his clearing of the woods but he is also invaluable for his translation work which is so important at our club.  His work combined with his upbeat attitude makes him an obvious choice for this recognition.   Congratulations are also extended to Chad Townsend who was just recently recognized as the 2012 PGA of Canada Atlantic Zone Assistant Professional of the year. Our juniors too continue to do us proud.  Molly MacDermaid, Tyler Carroll, Philippe Patterson and Danek Hadley are names to note.    Both the men’s and ladies’ sections had successful programs with terrific participation under Brenda Parrott’s and Jean Marc Fournier’s guidance.  Many positive comments were passed along about the positive nature of tournaments and club match play moving along at the scheduled pace.  I would like to thank both club captains for this.

Gowan Brae once again has benefited from Bathurst’s corporate citizens.  Many companies have been very generous but this year Xstrata must be singled out for their support of Gowan Brae.  Xstrata and Gowan Brae have had a long and happy partnership.  Their contribution to the golf course over the past decades cannot be forgotten and on behalf of the members I would like thank their current and past management teams and the employees and wish them well as they adjust to the closure of Brunswick mine this year.

As I begin my term as President, I look forward to working with the Board of Directors: Brian Fitzpatrick- vice president, Celia Clark, Aurele Hachey, Claude Mallet, Brenda Parrott, Kathy Grebenc, Jean Marc Fournier, Chuck Johnstone, Brice Hornbrook, Keith Assaff, Jamie MacLaggan and our secretary, Pat Edwards.

I would also like to acknowledge Tim O’Connell on his departure from the board.  Over the years he has volunteered on the greens committee, finance committee, house committee and has served as president for one term.   His dedication to the board will be missed.
