President’s Message
April 22, 2010
Another golfing season is now upon us, and fortunately much earlier than any year in recent memory. Due to the mild winter, we were able to open the course to members and guests weeks earlier than normal, with conditions fast approaching mid-summer levels.
The 2009 golfing season was a successful one on many fronts, but mostly in the sense that the course quite possibly never looked or played better – we plan to build on that success during the 2010 season. The overall golf experience of a well-manicured course, fast and consistent greens, a reasonable speed of play, and friendly and professional service all contribute to creating the atmosphere that Gowan Brae has built its reputation on.
It’s our commitment to excellence that allows Gowan Brae to enjoy the largest membership in the province, while effortlessly accommodating a steady contingent of visitors, tournaments, banquets, weddings and corporate events. Our elegant and spacious club house is home to our pro shop, bar, restaurant and banquet facilities all set against the scenic backdrop of the harbour, with a professional, courteous staff ready to serve you.
Gowan Brae can also claim the largest junior golf program in the province, which prides itself on providing professional instruction to our young golfers while instilling the principles of fair play, camaraderie, and mutual respect.
This season, the focus will be to expand upon improvements from years past and further refine the course’s appearance and playability. Our club has spent over half a century enhancing the course’s fairways, greens, tees, and the surrounding forests and water features to create optimal playing conditions while accentuating the natural beauty of the landscape. The result is a golf course that is challenging in its length and layout, yet still forgiving and versatile enough to accommodate golfers of any skill level. It’s a course that is unique in its balance of risk-reward character while still being receptive to scoring and fair to players of all abilities.
So whether you are a scratch golfer looking to play from the tips, or a beginner interested in learning the basics, Gowan Brae is the ideal golf destination. We certainly look forward seeing old friends, greeting visitors, and meeting new members.
