2025 Golf Season
On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff, welcome to the Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club. We are pleased to have you as a member of our club. We strive to be one of the finest semi-private golfing facilities in Atlantic Canada. In order to make you feel at home and more comfortable as a member we have prepared an information package for you which is as follows:
Access and Parking
Please be aware of golfers crossing at #11 and #7 when entering through the long entrance road. You may drive up to the front door to drop off and pick up equipment. Parking is limited to the outside parking lot.
Driving Range
The Driving Range is located next to #1 fairway for use by all our members. This range is one of the best facilities you will see anywhere and can improve your game dramatically if you use it periodically. Range balls are free for members, and $10+tax for non-members.
Tee Times
Members' tee times can be booked 3.5 days in advance. For example, tee times for any time on Saturday can be booked after 6:00 pm on Tuesday night. Booking online is the quickest and most efficient way to book a tee time. You can also call the Pro Shop directly to make a tee time inquiry. Please check in with the Pro Shop as soon as you arrive at the club and be there at least 10 minutes before your starting time. During peak times, there should be four to a group in order to maintain a good pace of play on the course.
Speed of Play
In order to ensure the best golf experience possible while playing at Gowan Brae it is essential to maintain a pace of play consistent with the club standard. This means that we allow 4Hrs and 10 minutes for a round of golf as a guide. Two hours are allotted for the front nine and 2hrs and 10 minutes for the back nine. There are a number of clocks located on the course to assist you in ensuring you are maintaining your allotted time. Each clock has a sign below that stated the allotted time to reach that location. If you have taken more than the allotted amount of time to reach that location you must speed up your pace of play.
Fundamental Rules of Etiquette
Some fundamental rules of golf etiquette to follow at any club would include raking your sand trap after use, replacing your divots (ask for demonstration if not sure how), patching divots on tees with sand from the bucket provided, allowing the group ahead of you to clear out of range before hitting, keep power carts and pull carts away from the greens and tees by following the cart paths, keeping the pace of play as described above and by following the club rules as posted.
On-Course Services
There is a canteen/washroom located on the course that can be used after playing #5 and #12 holes. In addition to this, we will have a convenience cart circulating at busy times during the season for your use where you can buy food and beverages. There is also a rain shelter located on the course at #15 tee that offers protection from heavy rain.
Weekly Activities
There are a number of weekly activities in which you can participate if you so desire. On Tuesday morning and Tuesday evening the ladies have golf activities which you can enjoy by checking with the ladies club captain. Thursday afternoon and early evening is men's night. This is a very popular day as a number of businessmen take advantage of this function to enjoy a round of golf and a fine meal afterward. See the starter for details.
General Administration
If you have any questions regarding the operation of the club, please get in touch with the Director of Golf Adam Chamberlain at 546-2707 ext#5.
Club House, Pro Shop and Lockers
The club house is open at 7am every morning during the golf season. An excellent menu is offered for all members and guests, including breakfast. Lockers are available for use downstairs for the men and ladies. Club cleaning and storage is also available for all adult members. These services incur a small charge and arrangements can be made with the staff in the Pro Shop. We encourage all members to utilize the club for all occasions and you are welcome to bring friends into the club to enjoy our beautiful facilities.
The Pro Shop is under the direction of Director of Golf Adam Chamberlain and Head Professional Chad Townsend. If you need any help with your game, including lessons or equipment, do not hesitate to ask Chad or Adam for help. You will find a full range of products available from the shop and if you need other service in this area, the staff are eager to serve you. Power carts, pull carts, range passes and green fees can be booked through the pro shop as well. Assistant Professional Andrew Wood is our head club fitter, with an extensive knowledge of the latest club technologies - he and the rest of the team offer full custom club-fitting capabilities to make sure our clients are properly equipped to play their best.
Power carts can be booked through the Pro Shop for a daily rental or for yearly or corporate rentals. Gowan Brae has a fleet of 60 golf power carts for your use, complete with fold down wind-shields, so you may want to take advantage of this service that is available to you as a member. Power carts are $15 per seat for members and $20 per seat for guests per 18 holes.
Corporate Friday Afternoons
Friday afternoons are quite often booked for corporate events. In order to allow our members to play a full round during these days, we have a shot gun start in the mornings at 7:30am. A shot gun start simply means players go to designated tees throughout the course and begin play all at the same time. Obviously, everyone will finish at the same time allowing the corporate event to begin in the same manner. These corporate events allow us to maintain our membership fees at a very competitive rate while offering our facility for community functions.
Also, a number of other club events are held throughout the year for both men and women. You can view the schedule on the bulletin boards or visit our new web site at gowanbrae.ca Also, there are news letters sent out by e-mail periodically with good information.
